Clinton Richard Dawkins, FRS, FRSL (born 26 March 1941) is a British ethologist, zoologist, Neo-Darwinian evolutionary biologist and theorist and a popular science author.
......[JACK OF ALL -----; MASTER OF NONE]?
Dawkins came to prominence with his 1976 book 'The Selfish Gene'-which popularised the gene-centred view of evolution
His book 'The Extended Phenotype'- emphasizing that the phenotypic effects of genes are not necessarily limited to an organism's body, but can stretch via biochemistry
and behaviour far into the web of life
He is particularly sceptical about the practical possibility or importance of group selection
........[SCEPTICAL IN NATURE]
In particular, Dawkins and Gould have been prominent commentators in the controversy over sociobiology and evolutionary psychology, with Dawkins generally approving and Gould generally being critical
Dawkins' latest book, entitled The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution, expounds the evidence for biological evolution.
Dawkins coined the word 'meme' (the cultural equivalent of a gene) to describe how Darwinian principles might be extended to explain the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena
......[HEAD IN THE CLOUDS AND FEET FIRMLY 'NOT'PLANTED ON EARTH ' WAY OF THINKING]
Dawkins' memes' refer to any cultural entity which an observer might consider a replicator
He hypothesised that people could view many cultural entities as capable of such replication, generally through exposure to humans, thus providing a framework for a hypothesis of "cultural evolution"=cultural transmission of experiences.
[ REMINDS ONE OF THE" CULTURAL REVOLUTION" OF MAO'S CHINA WHICH WAS ALSO A FOOLISH IDEA AS "CULTURAL EVOLUTION" OF RICHARD GAWKIN]
....... CALL IT CLOUDY THINKING]
Dawkins is an outspoken atheist, secular humanist, sceptic, scientific rationalist, and supporter of the Brights movement
Dawkins believes that his own atheism is the logical extension of his understanding of evolution and that religion is incompatible with science.
...LET HIM SAY THAT BUT COMMON SENSE(MAJORITY THINKING)IS LACKING IN SOME SCIENTISTS
In his 1986 book The Blind Watchmaker, Dawkins wrote:
An atheist before Darwin could have said, following Hume: "I have no explanation for complex biological design. All I know is that God isn't a good explanation, so we must wait and hope that somebody comes up with a better one." I can't help feeling that such a position, though "logically sound", would have left one feeling pretty unsatisfied, and that although atheism might have been logically tenable before Darwin,
Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist."
[A DROWNING MAN WILL CATCH AT STRAWS - "A desperate person will try anything to save himself, no matter how unlikely. The proverb has been traced back to 'Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation' (1534) by Thomas More (1478-1535). First cited in the United States in 'Colonial Currency' (1720). The proverb is found in varying forms" a drowning man will clutch at a straw; A drowning man grabs at a straw; A drowning man snatches at straws, etc. The proverb has its counterpart in other languages too] SO RICHARD DAWKINS IS IN A SIMILAR QUANDARY IN THE ABOVE 1986 BOOK]
Dawkins has especially risen to prominence in contemporary public debates relating science and religion since the publication of his 2006 book The God Delusion, which has achieved greater sales figures worldwide than any of his other works to date
n the book, Dawkins argued that atheists should be proud, not apologetic, because atheism is evidence of a healthy, independent mind
n January 2006, Dawkins presented a two-part television documentary entitled The Root of All Evil?, addressing what he sees as the malignant influence of religion on society.
Critics have said that the programme gave too much time to marginal figures and extremists, and that Dawkins' confrontational style did not help his cause
He further remarked that someone who is deemed an "extremist" in a religiously moderate country may well be considered "mainstream" in a religiously conservative one[QUACKING OF DAWKINS]
Dawkins asks "what expertise can theologians bring to deep cosmological questions that scientists cannot? Elsewhere, Dawkins has written that "there's all the difference in the world between a belief that one is prepared to defend by quoting evidence and logic, and a belief that is supported by nothing more than tradition, authority or revelation. As examples of "good scientists who are sincerely religious", Dawkins names Arthur Peacocke, Russell Stannard, John Polkinghorne and Francis Collins, but says "I remain baffled ... by their belief
[HE IS A GOOD SCIENTIST WITH NO COMMON SENSE ,ANTI RELIGION EXTREMIST ,NOT VIOLENT LIKE A JIHADS] SUCH EXTREMISTS THOUGHTS CAN BE EXPLAINED BY DARWIN'S THEORY ]
He has described the Young Earth creationist view that the Earth is only a few thousand years old as "a preposterous, mind-shrinking falsehood, [AT LEAST SOMETIME HE IS CORRECT]
"blind watchmaker" THEORY OF DAWKIN AND OTHER ATHEISTS:--
18th-century English theologian William Paley in his book Natural Theology. Paley argued that, just as a watch is too complicated and too functional to have sprung into existence merely by accident, so too must all living things, with their far greater complexity, be purposefully designed. According to Dawkins, however, natural selection is sufficient to explain the apparent functionality and non-random complexity of the biological world, and can be said to play the role of watchmaker in nature, albeit as an automatic, non intelligent,18th-century English theologian William Paley in his book Natural Theology. In a December 2004 interview with American journalist Bill Moyers, Dawkins said that "among the things that science does know, evolution is about as certain as anything we know"[I AM NOT SAYING THERE IS NO EVOLUTION .I ONLY SAY EVEN EVOLUTION IS GUIDED ;THEN ;NOW; AND TILL THE END OF LIFE ON THIS EARTH; IF THERE IS ONE; AND THE SAME EVOLUTION IS GOING ON AMONG THE STILL TO BE DISCOVERED LIVING BEINGS OF OUTER PLANETS AND STARS ,WITHOUT DAWKIN GETTING EXCITED AND COMMENTING ON GOD AND ETC] COME ON ACCEPT THAT THERE IS AN UNEXPLAINED PLAN IN THIS MADNESS OF UNIVERSE,SOME OF WHICH WE KNOW ;MOST WE DON'T] post script:- a surprise thought from nowhere:-
On reading the last paragraph written by me about life in outer space and the changes taking place there>>i was surprised by what i wrote .because such a thought was neither in my mind nor in my brain.
My position about life in outer space was a 50-50 chance of finding something living out there ,something as small as a virus like or bacteria like or something as big or bigger than a whale;something transparent & invisible or something of a diff: chemical ,biological, physiological entity other than the carbon based life here.
I never thought of or dreamt of darwininan changes out there in space.
so from where this idea, thought flashed into my mind?
The future will tell whether my this 'flash in pan' idea was foolish or a real inspirational thought
And if it comes true i will call it a 'divine inspiration' even if anybody oppose it.
poor darwin he was blind enough -- call it a blind watch maker-- (because of his lack of common sense ) to recognise
the monumentous discovery made by him through his inspirational thoughts and actions and connected it to some thing called' anti guided creation activity' and atheism
The cause and effect of his discovery got mired in silly arguments about God --- let us call God as a thinking; benign(mostly); progressive; purposeful ;NATURE for the sake of people worried about the name GOD
